GAC effectively removes GenX from groundwater and surface water, though system design and carbon selection is important.
- Third party testing demonstrates reagglomerated bituminous coal to remove GenX to non-detect levels for over 150 simulated days of operation.
- Contact time is an important factor in system design and may need to be elongated beyond our typical recommendation to achieve a practical breakthrough time (i.e. 20 minute EBCT vs. 10 minute EBCT).
- Pilot testing in NC showed GenX removal at 20 minutes EBCT.
